I keep thinking something has got to give with this smartphone-addicted society many of us live in. Children are missing out on core experiences in their youth, and their parents aren't parenting because they'd rather be scrolling through meaninglessness. I honestly often self-soothe from a busy day by plugging in- sometimes by reading news, but often not. And ask me about the factoids and news updates I read about on my information highway access the night before. I will not be able to remember one article. It was once so promising to be able to access a search engine at our fingertips- how worldly and knowledgeable would we become! Not the case.
Why are we doing this to ourselves? What will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, which hopefully transports us back to an interactive, engaging life with the world around us and not just with a small rectangle, inches from our face?
I agree. I'm trying an experiment. I'm leaving my phone upstairs when I get home and just unplugging during the evening. Well, I did that yesterday.... We'll see how tonight goes.
So far, it's been kind of weird easy. I just come home, go upstairs, change into my smoking jacket, leave my phone upstairs, go downstairs and chat up the little lady. Have coffee, and you know, talk with a live person. To say it has been relaxing is an understatement. Now I just have to break the habit of scrolling until midnight after I "go to bed."
There you go! Face-to-face social interaction= good. I kept my phone on the charger after being inspired by you the first night, then went back to "doomscrolling" and looking at dog memes the next night. Try, try again!

Elizabeth, your icon is a series of cats on laptop computers. Reading your comment about over use of computer devices I find this humorously ironic.
Going golfing soon… at least I’ll put the phone away for a while.
Ah yes, but they are not scrolling on their phones while in the litter box. They must be hard at work planning world kitty domination...
