Having worked in a high school for over 20 years, I have seen many student campaigns. Generally, it is the more popular candidate that wins. Not the best one. In the effort to foster leadership potential sometimes we have to talk someone into running and then conduct interviews and select the winners ourselves. Is that unfair? Maybe. But necessary if you want to get the job done right. There are signs all over TN "Vote for Dolly" (as in Dolly Parton) which makes me wonder; "who isn't running?" And, also, these guys are supposed to be public servants. It was never meant to be about them.

For kids in school, no it is not unfair, they are kids and don't know what they need. Contrast that with grownups voting today and you kind of understand why at the beginning of this country you had to be a landowner. That meant you had skin in the game, policies mattered, and you were interested in picking the right people. Unfortunately, that also meant you were a white male. So, there's that.

It does seem almost bizarre that we let just anyone vote, if you think about it. But, I cannot offer an equitable fix for that. You kind of have to let everyone vote.

I do like Heinlein's answer, in the book "Starship Troopers". You had to have served in some type of civil service, military or something to earn your right to vote.

I give you the Tytler Cycle: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

So where do you stand on Cruz?

I personally think Cruz should be a Supreme Court Justice. I think his temperament is better suited to that role. Meanwhile I will vote for him over Allred.

How about Cancun travel consultant? ;)

Well, if he loses the election he may need to consider that!

Well, he won "bigly" as Trump would say. Which is fascinating because 400 thousand people that voted for Trump did not vote for Cruz. And he still crushed Allred. I'm not sure what that means.
